Devils poke fun at rivals in schedule release video

The Devils went to hilarious lengths to announce the dates for some of their biggest games this season in a video that featured Dougie Hamilton showcasing his humor with a guest appearance by Curtis Lazar.

In the video the Devils defenseman is in a classroom setting and goes by the name “Prof. Douglas D. Admin” and uses a map to point to the states where games will be taking place.

Hamilton, who has been on the Devils since 2021 when he signed a seven-year, $63 million deal in free agency, starts by pointing to Pennsylvania to talk about the eight combined games they’ll play against the Flyers and Penguins.

“Penguins have wings but can’t fly. Flyers have wings but aren’t a real thing,” Hamilton says after introducing the state as the home of both hockey clubs. “Nothing in this state makes sense.”

Then the video turns its attention to the Empire State and the Devils biggest rivals, the Rangers.

Hamilton pokes fun at the fact that the New York Times had once named the best pizza in New York as a joint in Jersey City, New Jersey.

“New York City, home of the New York Times, who once voted the best pizza in New York to be from Razza, which, like the Statue of Liberty, is in New Jersey,” Hamilton jokes.

After taking a shot at Ohio – home of the Blue Jackets – the Islanders caught heat next in the comedic attempt to reveal next season’s schedule.

“This little fish stick strip of land is Long Island, pronounced lawn-guy-land,” Hamilton says. “Their main exports are Billy Joel, accents and a super creative hockey team name.”

The fake mustachioed NHL defenseman nearly broke character while reading the punchline in the video.

The Devils are trying to bounce back from an ugly 2023-24 season where they missed the postseason with a 38-39-5 record.

They’ll open the regular season with a pair of games overseas against the Sabres in Prague, Czechia.
