Michael Strahan’s TV prominence could decrease in the future.
When speaking with Graham Bensinger in a recent YouTube interview, the Hall of Fame defensive end and broadcaster — who is an anchor on “Good Morning America” and appears weekly on “NFL on Fox” — opened up about his post-football ventures and how long he’d like to stay on-air.
“At some point, you’ve got to look back,” Strahan said. “I love my life. I enjoy my life. My kids are in college. I want to be able to go to college. I want to be able to say, ‘Hey, let’s go take a trip,’ not, ‘Oh, I’ve got to get this vacation time off.’ I want a life where there’s some freedom at some point.”
The ABC and Fox Sports commentator, 52, capped off thoughts about his TV future with a strong zinger.
“I guarantee you this: I’ll be off TV before a lot of people [are] sick of seeing me on TV,” Strahan said.
Notably, the Giants legend didn’t specify an exact timeline for a small screen retirement, mentioning even up to 10 years before stepping away.
Strahan also joked with Bensinger that he recently made a clandestine bet with a friend about when the workaholic would retire.
The sixth-leading sack artist in NFL history recently received encouraging news surrounding his 19-year-old daughter, Isabella, who finished her final round of chemotherapy for brain cancer on June 20.
“@isabellastrahan you are a SUPERWOMAN!” Strahan wrote on Instagram.
Strahan has not appeared on “GMA” for six straight episodes, leaving some to wonder if the absence is related to Isabella’s health.
However, Strahan was seen at the Giants’ “A Night With Legends” ceremony on June 20, in honor of the team’s centennial anniversary.
Since retiring from the NFL in 2008 after the Giants’ Super Bowl XLII triumph over the Patriots, Strahan has been a staple on Fox Sports’ NFL programming.
The 6-foot-5 Strahan joined “GMA” in 2016, finding a way to balance the two programs concurrently — and appearing on fans’ televisions almost every day, even during the football offseason.
