Kings trade former first-round pick Davion Mitchell to Raptors

The Raptors are attempting to add depth to their roster.

They are acquiring Davion Mitchell, Sasha Vezenkov and a second-round pick (No. 45) from the Kings, according to ESPN, in exchange for Jalen McDaniels.

Mitchell, an NCAA Tournament champion with Butler, averaged 5.3 points in 15.3 minutes per game last year for the Kings.

The Kings drafted him No. 9 overall in the 2021 NBA Draft and he had a promising rookie season with the team, recording 11.5 points and 4.2 assists per game in a larger role, playing 27.7 minutes per game.

But he struggled his second season in the league, averaging 5.6 points per game, and further regressed this year.

Vezenkov averaged just 5.4 points per game last year, his first in the NBA.

McDaniels averaged 3.4 points per game last year.

The deal will bring the Kings under the luxury tax and opens up a roster spot.

They’ve already had a busy offseason, bringing back Malik Monk on a four-year deal worth $78 million and drafting Devin Carter, a former Providence star, with the No. 13 pick Wednesday night.

The Kings failed to make it out of the Play-In Tournament this year, while the Raptors didn’t make the postseason.
