Wife of Raiders coach Antonio Pierce files for bankruptcy

Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce was named in his wife’s bankruptcy filing, which states he was a guarantor of judgements that equal more than $28 million, in Phoenix on June 12.

Pierce, whom the Raiders hired as the organization’s full-time head coach in January, invested millions in car dealerships in the 2010s that defaulted on the couple’s loans, according to court documents posted on X by sports law reporter Jason Morrin on Tuesday.

Jocelyn Pierce — a realtor who married the former Super Bowl champion linebacker — claims she did not sign any personal guarantee on the loans.

In the filing, Mrs. Pierce requests an extension of time to file proper documents, as “the Debtor was forced to file quickly and with little preparation to protect her assets and those of the marital community from Mr. Pierce’s judgment creditors.”

Pierce was named a guarantor of judgements from Nissan Motor Acceptance Corporation for $23 million and Hyundai Capital America, which is holding a $4.5 million judgment, according to the report.

Both companies recently attempted to garnish Pierce’s wages, per the documents.

“In the 2010s, My Pierce was convinced to invest in car dealerships,” the court documents, which were filed in the United States Bankruptcy Court For the District of Arizona, read. “Despite his role as a mere passive investor with no oversight or management of the businesses’ affairs, Mr. Pierce was asked to sign various documents. Although the Debtor has no direct knowledge of the events, personal guaranties were later produced bearing Mr. Pierce’s name.

“When several of the businesses defaulted on their loans, the lenders obtained judgements against the businesses’ and Mr. Pierce as a guarantor. The Debtor is informed that these judgements amount to more than $28,000,000.”

Pierce, a Super Bowl-winning linebacker with the Giants in 2008, and his wife have yet to publicly address the situation.

The Raiders removed the interim head coach title off of Pierce and hired him full-time in January after he took over for Josh McDaniels.

Pierce led Las Vegas to 5-4 record to end the 2023 season following McDaniels’ dismissal.

The former Pro Bowl linebacker got the team to buy into his system and won over the locker room with culture cultivated around the Raider Way.

Pierce has been present for the Raiders OTAs and mandatory minicamp.
