Dave Portnoy loses it over Travelers Championship protesters with $500K bet on the line

A hectic moment for bettors — including Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy — got even more stressful Sunday.

When climate protesters stormed the 18th green at the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Conn., it delayed the finish to an event coming down to the wire between Scottie Scheffler and Tom Kim.

Portnoy, who placed a $180,000 wager on Scheffler to win the event, was fuming over the pause.

“EXECUTE THESE PROTESTERS!!!!” Portnoy wrote sarcastically on X to his 3.1 million followers.

Portnoy followed up the post with a shirtless video reaction, saying, “We got protestors running on the f—-king course!” and pointedly adding, “Not now!”

At the time of the interruption, Scheffler held a one-stroke lead over Kim.

Afterward, Kim nailed a putt that knotted things at 22-under.

Scheffler then defeated Kim on a playoff hole, his sixth victory of the season — something no golfer has done since Tiger Woods in 2009.

With the Scheffler win, Portnoy took home $504,000, celebrating in a video by pumping his fists.

Scheffler called the win “pretty special” while holding his 6-week-old son, Bennett.

“It’s been a great season,” the Ridgewood, N.J. native said. “I’ve been fortunate to come away with some wins. It’s been a lot of fun.”

The 28-year-old won his second Masters in April and followed it up with an RBC Heritage title a week later.

Portnoy has ridden Scheffler’s coattail to profit frequently this year.

In mid-May, the Barstool boss won $375k on a $50k bet on Scheffler to win the 2024 PGA Championship.

Portnoy also bet on Scheffler to win the RBC and the Boston Celtics to win the 2024 NBA title, notching a payout of nearly $1.66 million on a $100,000 wager.

Scheffler’s dominance doesn’t appear to be slowing any time soon, and bettors like Portnoy will seemingly stay right by his side.
