Long-awaited NYC restaurant Din Tai Fung gets onslaught of bad reviews — for not opening

They’re dumping on the dumplings.

Impatient New York foodies are roasting a highly anticipated Tawainese Midtown eatery with poor reviews online — all because it still has not opened for nearly two years since being announced.

The globally popular Xiaolongbao soup dumpling and noodle chain Din Tai Fung, which is coming to Broadway between West 50th and 51st streets, has had the culinary world stoked for its first East Coast location.

Reddit threads have even been tracking its movements in hopes of an update in the past few months.

But delayed openings at the former plaza of the beloved Mars 2112 family restaurant and arcadeEater reported Din Tai Fung was coming this Spring and has been pushed now to July — left a sour taste in the mouths of future patrons.

Street advertisements in NYC also teased that it was “steaming soon Spring 2024.”

Another Reddit thread from last month was aggressively titled “WHEN [THE F–K] IS DIN TAI FUNG OPENING.”

Things have boiled over more in recent days. Din Tai Fung was hammered with one-star reviews on Google, many critical of the elongated process.

“No one served us and I don’t know about the atmosphere because it isn’t open yet,” one read.

“Food is great always, service is meh and atmosphere can be cheerful but the problem is this place isn’t open yet,” another review that has since been deleted added, per Eater.

The negativity caused even more confusion as defenders of Din Tai Fung tried offsetting the bad reviews by leaving misleading 5-star recommendations.

“Food was superb, service impeccable, location excellent!” a phony review read while a second lauded its Nutella dumplings.

By Monday, many of the 20 reviews of the 3.9-star to-be-opened establishment were taken down — some criticizing the “super mean and useless” one-star ratings, according to Eater.

Those in the Big Apple who won’t (or can’t) wait any longer can travel across the continental US to Glendale, California, Las Vegas, Nevada, or other Din Tai Fung locations in the Pacific Northwest.
