Cannes security guard has third incident on red carpet — clashing with K-pop star Yoona
A Cannes security guard is once again making headlines.
The female staffer who clashed with Kelly Rowland and Massiel Taveras at the Cannes Film Festival strikes again, this time with K-pop star Yoona.
Yoona, 33, was about to pose for her red-carpet photos when the security guard stopped her.
The interaction between the singer-turned-actress and the guard went viral on X, formerly Twitter, over the weekend.
A May 19 video showed Yoona climbing the steps and turning to wave to fans just for the staffer to block her with her arm and usher her away.
While Yoona did not scold the guard as Rowland did, she did appear upset as she obliged and walked away.
“You could tell Yoona’s pissed but she handled it with grace and class,” one person wrote of the Girls’ Generation member.
Rowland, on the other hand, was seen pointing her finger toward the female security guard amid their heated exchange on May 21.
The 43-year-old Destiny’s Child singer opened up to the Associated Press about the incident.
“The woman knows what happened. I know what happened,” she said. “I have a boundary and I stand by those boundaries, and that is it.”
Rowland also said that there were “other women that attended that carpet who did not quite look like me and they didn’t get scolded or pushed off or told to get off.”
Meanwhile, Taveras was caught on video seemingly shoving the same security guard. The unidentified female usher appeared to rush her inside, seemingly preventing the star from adjusting her white gown with a train embellished with an image of Jesus Christ.
The footage shows the guard using her arm to block Taveras in a similar manner that she did to Yoona.
The 39-year-old Dominican actress and TV presenter retaliated by putting her hand in the woman’s face.
Taveras was attending the premiere of the French film “The Count of Monte Cristo” at the time. Taveras didn’t directly address her incident, but did praise Rowland for how she handled her situation.
“Queen,” Taveras commented on reports about Rowland via Instagram Story on Saturday. “[We need] respect.”
Amid the drama, an unidentified staffer has come forward to defend the female guard.
“She was an usher working under a lot of pressure to keep people on the carpet moving, so as to stop crowds building up,” the co-worker told the Daily Mail.
“There was no pushing or shoving, or scolding. Security and safety are the priorities, along with keeping to strict timetables set according to contracts — even the celebrities have to stick to the rules.”
