Livvy Dunne agrees with this Pirates fan.
A young Pirates fan named Cooper said in an interview with SportsNet Pittsburgh on Thursday that his two favorite things about pitcher Paul Skenes — the rookie fireballer and Dunne’s boyfriend — are his mustache and his infamous girlfriend.
The LSU gymnastics start soon caught wind of the viral interview and responded on Friday afternoon.
“I like the stache too kid,” she wrote on X.
Cooper, who was sporting a fake mustache of his own, went viral for his response during Skenes’ latest outing, with one X user writing after the interview, “That’s not a kid, that’s a true man”
Dunne, the social media star, has been a massive part of the coverage of Skenes’ first full pro season and his recent call-up to the bigs — with MLB leaning into the high-profile relationship, as well.
“I always say, it’s way harder to be the person in the stands watching because I’m not in control,” she said in a clip MLB posted on its TikTok account. “I can’t control — I don’t know how to throw a 100 mile (per hour) fastball, but it’s hard to have no control. Especially with gymnastics when you’re just watching. But I know he’s got this and I just have a lot of confidence in him.”
Thankfully, the relationship is a two-way street, with Skenes fawning over Dunne’s accomplishments, too.
The gynmast will be featured in the upcoming 2024 edition of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition — and Skenes was impressed.
“I’m pretty sure he said, ‘Damn,’” Dunne told SI Swimsuit during a red carpet appearance about Skenes’ reaction to her photoshoot. “He was like, ‘Damn.’”
This will be Dunne’s second appearance in the publication.
Skenes, for his part, has a strong 2.25 ERA through his first three big league starts, going 1-0 with 21 strikeouts in 16 innings.
