Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr. and school-superintendent wife deny beating their daughter: ‘Completely innocent’

Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr. and his wife on Tuesday denied abusing their daughter a day after they were both charged for allegedly beating her unconscious with a broom.

The New Jersey mayor, a 50-year-old Democrat, and his 47-year-old wife, Atlantic City Public Schools Superintendent La’Quetta, were charged Monday with assault and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child.

The mayor is also charged with third-degree terrorist threats and third-degree aggravated assault.

However, the pair’s lawyer, Edwin Jacobs, said Tuesday that they deny the charges — and that the parents and their two kids “remain a close & loving & intact family.”

“Mayor Small & La’Quetta Small are completely innocent of any wrongdoing & will ultimately be completely vindicated,” Jacobs said in a statement obtained by WTXF-TV.

On Tuesday, the mayor also posted a video of him smiling while back at work — along with hashtags including “#unbothered.”

His teen daughter, who has not been otherwise identified, was allegedly abused on multiple occasions between December 2023 and January 2024 when she was 15 and 16, according to authorities.

In one incident, the mayor allegedly repeatedly hit her in the head with a broom, knocking her out. In another, he threatened to throw her down the stairs and grab her by the head and smack her weave off, investigators reportedly said.

He had also allegedly punched her in the legs repeatedly while his wife was accused of pummeling her in the chest with punches, leaving her bruised, black and blue. In a separate incident, the school administrator allegedly punched her daughter in the mouth.

La’Quetta was also accused of dragging the teen by the hair and beating her with a belt on her shoulders.

Marty had not responded to The Post’s request for comments and City Hall had declined to weigh in on the accusations.
