A winter storm brought snow across NYC, the tristate and other parts of the Northeast on Tuesday, with 15 inches accumulating in some areas of Connecticut, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
New York City Schools Chancellor David Banks insisted that the decision to shutter public schools and institute remote learning for the day “was the right call” and Tuesday “not a wasted day” — despite the spate of tech issues that caused frustration for parents and teachers.
Banks blamed the widespread tech issues on IBM not being prepared for “prime time” when hundreds of thousands of students tried to access their online classrooms and emails.
“We told them that almost 1 million students between 7:30 and 8:00 would be coming online to go to school,” Banks said. “To say that I am disappointed, frustrated and angry is an understatement.”
Meanwhile, some city kids ditched the laptops and enjoyed sledding in Central Park for the first time in years.
And in Boston — which was under a state of emergency with school closings and parking bans as weather reports said they expected to be one of the hardest-hit Northeast cities and see a foot of snow — all they got was rain.
