Door flies off small plane flying outside Buffalo

A door fell off a small plane as it flew near Buffalo Monday evening, officials said.

The aircraft, which was carrying two people, landed safely at Buffalo Niagara International Airport after the rear door fell off above suburban Cheektowaga, officials said.

The plane was in the air for only seven minutes — between 5:39 p.m. and 5:46 p.m. — and turned around to land at the same airport from which it had departed, according to WKBW.

Cheektowaga police said in a statement that the door was believed to have fallen in the area of the town’s Stiglmeier Park, but it was not immediately recovered.

There were no reports of injury or property damage on the ground, and it was unclear what caused the dangerous mishap.

Local officials told The Post Tuesday morning that they were still searching for the door as the Federal Aviation Administration spearheaded an investigation.

The incident came after a door plug blew off in midair during a Jan. 5 Alaska Airlines flight 16,000 feet over Oregon.

The 737 MAX 9 aircraft was reportedly missing critical bolts that should have been installed by Boeing employees when it left the factory.

An internal investigation by the airline spurred by the near-disaster found that “many” of the company’s 737 MAX 9 planes had loose bolts.
