Donna Kelce reveals her famous cookie recipe to help pay student lunch debt

Donna Kelce is known for supporting her sons, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce — but they’re not the only children she shows support to.

Annie’s Barn, a small business in the Kansas City area, caught the 71-year-old’s attention with a coffee mug that said, “It’s Mama Kelce’s world and we’re all just living in it” — so much so that she ended up buying 20 to give out as Christmas Gifts.

“She wanted this mug. She thought this was hysterical,” owner Annie Stowe, 59, told KMBC. “She ordered 20-some of them to give out as gifts.”

Mama Kelce is also known for her famous chocolate chip cookies, which she made for Travis and Jason before they played against each other in the 2023 Super Bowl, and Stowe had an idea to incorporate her recipe in a new product.

“I got brave enough to just write and say, ‘Hey, would you want to collaborate on doing your cookie recipe on a mug and we’ll donate $5 from every mug sold to pay off school lunches?’ She wrote back right away and said yes,” Stowe shared with the local outlet.

The mug costs $19, and $5 from the purchase will go towards Stowe’s Out of the Red Friday initiative to pay off local school lunch debt.

In just two weeks, Stowe was able to raise over $2,000 toward student lunch debt.

Around this time last year, the small business owner did something similar for her initiative, raising about $4,000 selling Chiefs-themed yard signs.

This year, Stowe will be bringing the checks to pay off lunch debt to Pawnee Elementary and two schools in Olathe.

Stowe told People that she asked Mama Kelce if she would join her in delivering the checks to the schools.

“I haven’t heard back from her on that, but I know she’s kind of busy with the Super Bowl,” she said.

Here is Mama Kelce’s Best Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe:

  • 1½ cups sweet cream butter (3 sticks)
  • 1½ cups packed light brown sugar
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 large egg + 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tbsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp. baking soda (dissolved in 2 tbsp. of hot water to activate; microwave water first then stir in baking soda to dissolve)
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup cake or pastry flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1½ tsp. salt
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1 cup milk chocolate
  • 1 cup chopped pecans (optional)

The Kelce matriarch recently shared with Better Homes & Gardens a couple of extra tips to make sure the cookies are at their very best.

“I also let the cookie dough sit in the refrigerator overnight, and that just melds all the flavors all together—it just seems to be a better cookie,” she told the outlet.

She said to let the dough chill for at least three hours — though letting it chill overnight is preferred — then remove the dough from the fridge and let it come back to room temperature before putting it onto the cookie sheet.

“When you take the dough out of the refrigerator, remember to warm it up because it’s really hard to cook them when the dough is freezing cold,” she explained.
