Jena Sims welcomed Brittany Mahomes to the SI Swim family, and explained why she can relate to her.
Sims, who is married to LIV Golf pro Brooks Koepka, defended Brittany, the wife of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, from “haters” after she was named a 2024 SI Swim rookie on Thursday.
“I could not be more excited for her,” said Sims, who earned her SI Swim rookie title in Oct. 2023, in a video on SI Swimsuit’s Instagram Story. “I actually relate to her on a much smaller level. We’re both married to an athlete and she gets a lot of crap. She gets a lot of hate — unwarranted hate.
“She’s a very polarizing person, which that’s the type of model that SI Swimsuit hires to be a rookie. That’s the point. She’s a needle-mover. She’s a mover and a shaker, she’s a disrupter and I respect it.”
Sims went on to explain that she respects Brittany because she’s her own person outside of just being married to a pro athlete.
“Something that I personally run into, people, the haters I guess, get very uncomfortable when a woman is married to someone else who is successful, has her own thing going,” Sims said.
“Brittany owns a freaking soccer team, she’s a fitness influencer before that and probably so many more things that I don’t know about. But she’s her own person and I really respect that SI when y’all dropped the news, the headline wasn’t ‘Patrick Mahomes’ named rookie, it was freakin’ Brittany Mahomes.
“She deserves that on her own right and it has nothing to do with her husband… sometimes when I accomplish something people will say it’s because of Brooks. I had a life before him and accomplishments before him.”
Jena also said she hopes the two cross paths because she thinks Brittany is a sweetheart.
“I’m sure Brittany sleeps great at night but if I have any advice to give her, it’s someone else’s triggers are not your responsibility,” she said.
Brittany reposted Jena’s video and wrote, “Go off sis” with a bunch of clapping emojis.

Brittany — a former professional soccer player and the co-owner of the KC Current NWSL team, along with Mahomes — modeled several sultry swimsuits for SI Swimsuit’s 60th-anniversary issue, which hits stands in May.
The mother of two was named a 2024 SI Swimsuit rookie days before Super Bowl 2024, with Mahomes’ Chiefs set to face the 49ers on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Sports Illustrated Swimsuit will have a presence at Super Bowl 2024 — as it has in years past, with some models attending events and brand activations — which Sims said she will be attending.
It’s unclear what Brittany has planned this week for the big game.
