Meghan Markle skips King Charles visit as it’s ‘something Harry has to do alone’: ex-butler

Meghan Markle decided not to join Prince Harry on his urgent trip to London following King Charles’ cancer diagnosis because she felt it’s “something he has to do alone,” according to the monarch’s former butler.

A “worried” Duke of Sussex touched down on home soil — sans Markle — on Tuesday in a desperate effort to be with his estranged father following news of his ailing health.

Grant Harrold, who worked for King Charles for seven years when he was the Prince of Wales, believes the Duchess of Sussex, 42, made a conscious decision to sit out the trip.

“Meghan made the decision that it was best to stay home with the children, and maybe she feels that this is something Harry has got to do alone,” Harrold exclusively told The Post.

“It’s his father. She’s aware of the close relationship and probably encouraged him to come over.”

A convoy believed to be carrying Harry, 39, was spotted at London’s Heathrow Airport just after 2 p.m. local time.

On Monday night, a luxury Range Rover believed to belong to Harry’s entourage was seen arriving at LAX’s VIP terminal as the prodigal son rushed to be by his father’s side.

Harry is expected to be whisked away directly from the airport to see his father, who is beginning outpatient cancer treatment.

The royal expert says that the “Suits” alum may “come over at a later date,” but for now, she will remain in Montecito, California, with the pair’s two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

“I’m sure at some point they will bring the grandchildren over, that might be part of what’s being discussed — an opportunity for them to come over as a family,” Harrold shared.

King Charles' cancer diagnosis

  • King Charles III has been diagnosed with cancer less than 15 months after ascending to the throne.
  • The shocking development came just a week after the 75-year-old king was discharged from the hospital following treatment for an enlarged prostate.
  • His estranged son Prince Harry traveled to the UK Tuesday to see his father, returning to California 24 hours later.
  • Prince Harry has still not spoken to Prince William on the heels of their father King Charles’ cancer diagnosis — but the shocking news could force the estranged siblings into an uneasy truce, sources say.
  • Kensington Palace did not specify when the king would be expected to return to his royal duties, as all of his public engagements have been put on pause.

Harrold added that there’ll be a lot of reshuffling happening behind closed doors within the Firm while the monarch and Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, both remain on sick leave.

“Like any family, when someone is going through what Charles is, things have to change,” Harrold tells us.

“The work schedule has to change, but I think for the royal family, it’ll mean it’s business as usual to a certain extent, and we’re going to see other members stepping up to take on important roles in the coming weeks and months to support Charles in his absence.”
