Can the Giants discover their next great wide receiver at the Senior Bowl?

MOBILE, Ala. — The Giants front office decision-makers are here en masse, as are the scouts employed by the team, all convening for a week of Senior Bowl practices in advance of the annual college all-star game that features high-end — but not top-end — talent available in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Of the more than 150 players invited to this year’s Senior Bowl, only a handful — if that — will find their way into the first round on April 25.

The highest-rated player here this week is Laiatu Latu, an edge rusher from UCLA and a consensus first-round pick. It is expected that offensive tackle Taliese Fuaga from Washington State also will go in the first round. As so often happens, it is the eye of the beholder with these prospects.

This does not mean there is a dearth of gems to mine during the week. NFL personnel study every practice and watch the actual game played Saturday at Hancock Whitney Stadium on the campus of the University of South Alabama.
