Mike Tomlin walks out after question about his Steelers future

Mike Tomlin wasn’t dealing with any questions about his future in Pittsburgh after the Steelers lost to the Bills on Monday

Rumors have been swirling around about what Tomlin will be doing after this season, but the Steelers head coach did not want to deal with the topic right after his team had been eliminated from the playoffs.

Tomlin walked right off the podium when a reporter attempted to broach the subject during his postgame press conference.

“Mike, you have a year left on your contract …,” the reporter attempted to ask.

But before they could finish the thought, Tomlin bolted for the door.

While the Steelers have no interest in seeing Tomlin leave, reports have indicated that Tomlin is unsure about what he’s going to do after this season.

Pro Football Talk reported on Sunday that Tomlin will consult with his family about his future in the sport and he may sign a new deal with the Steelers.

Tomlin has one final year on his contract remaining, and this is the first time that he has gotten to the final year of his deal without an extension already in place.

“The options (as we see them) are this: (1) sign a new contract with the Steelers; (2) resign and wait to see whether another team contacts the Steelers about acquiring his contractual rights in 2024; (3) resign, sit out a year, and see whether another team contacts the Steelers about acquiring his rights in 2025; or (4) decline to sign an extension, finish his contract in 2024, and become a free agent,” Pro Football Talk wrote in its report

Tomlin, 51, has been head coach of the Steelers since 2007 and helped lead them to a title in Super Bowl 2009.

He has a 173-100-2 regular season record in his 17 seasons in Pittsburgh and is 8-10 in the playoffs.
