Owner David Tepper appears to toss drink at fan in latest Panthers debacle

Panthers owner David Tepper appeared to throw a drink out of his suite and in the direction of a fan, according to a video posted to social media.

Near the end of the clip, Tepper, who bought the franchise in 2018, looks like he tossed the beverage in a plastic cup and then flipped it against a countertop before walking away.

It’s unclear if a fan had done anything to upset Tepper, but after the drink toss, one can be seen standing on his chair and angrily looking into the owner’s box.

“When the @panthers owner throws a drink on @jaguars fans!!!!” the caption of the video, which was originally posted to Instagram, read.

It’s unclear when the incident occurred during Carolina’s 26-0 loss to host Jacksonville on Sunday, but multiple Panthers beat reporters shared the video — and a reporter from The Athletic wrote that he’d contacted the team and league for comment

“We are aware of the video and have no further comment at this time,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said in a statement to The Athletic.

Tepper and his front office already made a coaching change earlier this season, when they fired head coach Frank Reich after 11 games, but Charlotte Observer columnist Scott Fowler claimed he was “getting frozen out of asking a question” in Tepper’s press conference about moves.

Before the game, another video involving Tepper showed the owner on the field and greeting a fan, recognizing a sign that read, “2-13, I never missed a game.”

The Panthers’ loss on Sunday dropped their record to 2-14 this season, but even with the poor placement in the standings, they don’t hold the top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft after trading up to select Bryce Young No. 1 overall in April.

Young completed 19-of-32 passes for 112 yards and an interception against the Jaguars, who used Travis Etienne’s pair of touchdowns — including one on a 62-yard burst at the start of the third quarter — to overcome Trevor Lawrence’s absence due to a shoulder injury.
