Gypsy Rose Blanchard breaks silence on TikTok to celebrate freedom, thank supporters: ‘Finally free’
Gypsy Rose Blanchard celebrated her freedom on Sunday after she was released from prison on parole last week following a 10-year sentence tied to the murder of her mother, who subjected her to years of medical abuse.
Gypsy Rose — who persuaded her then-boyfriend to kill her mother Claudine “Dee Dee” Blanchard in 2015 — said she was “finally free” and thanked followers for “the massive amount of support” while plugging her new e-book and upcoming documentary series.
“I’m finally free” she exclaimed Sunday in a video on TikTok.
“I just want to send a quick video to thank everyone for the massive amount of support that I’ve been getting on social media. Everyone’s been really, really nice and supportive and I really appreciate that.
“It’s nice to be home, I’m back home in Louisiana, enjoying a beautiful day outside.”
Gypsy Rose was released from a Missouri prison last Thursday after serving most of her term connected to the slaying of her mother.
Dee Dee Blanchard forced her daughter to pretend for years that she was suffering from terminal and debilitating illnesses.
The mom even forced Gypsy to travel in a wheelchair and use a feeding tube even though she was a completely healthy young girl.
Dee Dee had Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a psychological disorder in which parents seek sympathy through the made-up illnesses of their kids.
She received loads of charity through her deranged ruse, including a new house, and even faked out doctors by claiming her child’s medical records were lost in Hurricane Katrina.
Gypsy was also misled about her health by her mother, especially when she was younger.
Eventually Gypsy convinced an online boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, to kill her mother, claiming in his 2018 trial that she wanted to be free of her overbearing parent.
Godejohn was convicted of first-degree murder and is serving a life sentence while Blanchard cut a deal to serve 10 years in exchange for pleading guilty to second-degree murder in 2016.
During Sunday’s minute-long video, the former inmate reminded followers to tune in to the three-episode docuseries “The Prison Confession of Gypsy Rose Blanchard.” The show will be featured on Lifetime next week.
She also said she released an ebook, “Released: Conversations on the Eve of Freedom,” and she’s “super proud of” the tome.
“It’s not a rehashing of everything that happened, it’s more of my reflection of everything that I’ve learned and experienced in the last eight and a half years,” she said.
Blanchard, in another video Sunday, wished supporters a happy new year’s eve and said she was going to ring in 2024 with her husband, Chris Anderson, who she married last year, and her father and stepfather.
“So we’re looking to ring in the new year together and it’s going to be really awesome to have some family time after so long,” she said.
