Persons of interest sought in connection to slain pregnant Texas teen Savanah Soto, boyfriend as mysterious surveillance video released
Texas cops were searching for a person of interest after officials confirmed pregnant Texas teen Savanah Soto and her boyfriend Matthew Guerra both died of gunshot wounds to their heads.
The revelations come after the bodies of Soto, 18, and Guerra, 22 were found on Tuesday in a car park outside a Northwest Side apartment complex in San Antonio.
Their unborn baby was also declared dead.
“Soto’s death [has been ruled] a homicide from a gunshot wound to the head,” a spokesman for the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office told The Post.
The coroner also listed Guerra’s cause of death as a “contact gunshot wound to the head” but has not yet determined whether it was a suicide or homicide, the spokesman added.
“Guerra is still a pending matter,” he said.
No firearms or cellphones were discovered at the crime scene where cops found the couple’s bullet-riddled bodies.
The San Antonio Police Department released surveillance footage on Thursday showing two persons of interest near where the couple’s bodies were found.
The video shows one suspect driving the victims’ silver Kia Optima pull up in a parking lot with its lights off to a dark pickup truck, driven by another suspect.
A hefty person in a tank top exits the truck and opens the driver’s door of the Kia and appears to exchange words with the driver, who stands up at one point.
After a brief exchange, both drive off in opposite directions, video shows.
Soto disappeared on Friday, one day before she was scheduled to be induced and give birth to their baby, whom they had already named Fabian.
Her body was found in a car alongside Guerra’s the following day after alarmed family members reported her missing to police because she did not show up for her appointment at Stone Oak Methodist Hospital.
Gloria Cordova, Soto’s mother, told KENS5 that Soto was found in the front seat with a car seat on top of her, and Guerra was sprawled out across the backseat.
“I hope they pay for whatever they did to my daughter,” she told the TV station, adding that she believes Guerra was involved with criminal activity.
“He used to abuse her and I told her to get out of the relationship, but she — she was hard-headed, she wouldn’t listen. But I think this time she was going to leave him already. That’s what I’m hearing.
“They took an innocent, an innocent girl that was going to be a mommy, they just took her life for nothing.”
Guerra was reportedly on probation for assaulting Soto on Christmas Day last year.
In June, a judge granted Guerra probation for the family violence case and permitted him to have contact with Soto as long as it was not “harmful or injurious,” according to court documents.
The probation was set to expire in June 2024, but a judge extended it to February 2025 after Guerra picked up additional, unrelated charges including unlawful carrying of a weapon, evading arrest in a vehicle, and reckless driving, according to the paper.
Guerra’s father, Gabriel, said he was aware his son had a criminal history that included unlawful carry of a weapon, evading police, and an assault charge causing bodily injury.
But, in an interview with KENS5, he insisted his son was not responsible for the couple’s deaths.
“He talked about how [becoming a dad] was going to make him better, a better person,” Gabriel said.
Guerra’s mother, Karen Hernandez, also defended her son in a post on Facebook after news of his death was made public.
“I was always a good mommy to my baby [now] I am heart broken [sic] and Noone will take the love I carry in my heart and soul for my pride and joy!!!!” she wrote.
