Mom slammed for putting four kids in one bedroom to condense clutter

When Monica Ellis got the idea to put her kids in one bedroom so they could use the other room as a playroom, the mum-of-four thought it was a genius plan.

A dedicated room for sleeping and a dedicated room for playing meant all the toy mess was contained in one room, and then all she had to do in the bedroom was pick up dirty laundry and make beds.

“Putting my seven, six and three-year-old twins in one room so we can have a game room,” she captioned a viral TikTok showing the process.

In the video, she showed how she dismantled the beds in the kids’ two bedrooms, tidied up the large, empty rooms and then rebuilt the beds.

The older kids’ single beds were parallel with each other along one wall with the twin’s bunk bed was set up in a corner, with narrow walkways between each bed.

This has honestly worked out so great for us, we have been able to subside the mess and clean up has been 10x easier! Also naptimes and bed times have been a lot smoother! I have big plans for the game room so stay tuned 🫶🏼 #momof5 #girlmom #playroom #gameroom #familyof8 #bunkbed #rearrangingroom #ideas

The playroom had plenty of space for a doll house, play kitchen, doll prams, craft tables and bookshelves.

Monica was pleased with herself, but the comments were overwhelmingly negative.

“This has honestly worked out so great for us, we have been able to reduce the mess and clean-up has been 10x easier,” Monica wrote.

“Also naptimes and bedtimes have been a lot smoother!”

Ignoring the fact that people all over the world live in close quarters with siblings and multiple generations, the commenters were outraged that Monica would give four small children in the same bedroom.

“I’d be so mad,” one person wrote.

“So they went from having no personal space/privacy to… really no personal space/privacy LOL,” wrote another.

“That is miserable for the oldest too,” said a third person.

“So when you don’t have enough rooms for your kids to even have their own space, I think a game room is like not that necessary???” a fourth person weighed in.

Others said the kids were living “van life”.

But not everyone disliked the change.

“The mums that GET IT. Love it so much!” wrote one person.

“They are KIDS. Kids don’t need privacy at this age,” said another. “Clearly you’re not a parent or at least not to kids this age because then you would know what they enjoy and don’t.”
