Josh Allen receives apology from Patrick Mahomes after Chiefs star’s postgame outburst

Josh Allen said everything was good between him and Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

The Bills QB was thrust into the spotlight after Sunday night’s 20-17 win when local station WROC-TV caught Mahomes complaining to Allen about an offensive offside penalty on Kadarius Toney that negated a potentially game-winning touchdown.

Allen told reporters on Wednesday that Mahomes had reached out to him to apologize for the way he had acted during the postgame handshake.

“He reached out to me,” Allen said. “I’m just like, ‘It’s football; it’s a game of emotion. I know he didn’t mean anything by it. I know the cameras kind of caught the last few seconds of what we were talking about. He’s an ultimate competitor. He wants to win. That’s why he is who he is.”

Allen said he didn’t feel the phone call was necessary

What the cameras caught was a livid Mahomes calling the penalty the “wildest f–king call I’ve ever seen” as he went to shake hands with Allen following the Bills win.

The Chiefs star apologized for the way he acted — which included him losing it on the refs and having to be restrained and voicing his displeasure during a postgame media conference — during an appearance on 610 Sports Radio in Kansas City.

Mahomes echoed a similar sentiment on Wednesday when he spoke to reporters after practice.

“Definitely emotion talking when I was talking to Josh at midfield,” Mahomes said. “To lose the football game, a tough football game, in a tough way. But I let it go on too long. He had nothing to do with it. Just show better sportsmanship and tell him great game and kind of keep it moving.”

Mahomes confirmed that he had spoken to Allen and said that “we’re all good,” but didn’t elaborate further on what had been said between the two.
