Jason Garrett filled in for Cris Collinsworth on ‘SNF’ and NFL fans didn’t take it well

There was no clapping for Jason Garrett.

Some NFL fans were begging for Cris Collinsworth to return to the booth after Garrett filled in for the longtime NBC analyst during the Ravens’ 20-10 win over the Chargers on “Sunday Night Football.”

Garrett, who joined NBC as a studio analyst in 2022 after 10 years as head coach of the Cowboys, was roasted on social media for his apparent lackluster job on the call alongside play-by-play announcer Mike Tirico.

Collinsworth was “enjoying the rest of the Thanksgiving weekend with his family,” Tirico, 56, said while introducing Garrett.

“Mike, it’s great to be here with you,” Garrett, 57, said. “What a night.”

Many NFL fans felt Collinsworth’s absence and were critical of Garrett’s performance in primetime.

“Hey @CollinsworthPFF – if you come back to the booth right this second I promise I’ll never ever make fun of you again,” The Ringer’s Cousin Sal wrote on X.

“You don’t’ know what you got til it’s gone,” another added.

Collinsworth’s son, Jac Collinsworth — a play-by-play voice and host for NBC Sports — was also working the game.

It marked Tirico’s second game of the week as he called the 49ers’ win over the Seahawks on Thanksgiving Day for NBC.

In 2022, Collinsworth was off for the primetime game between the Vikings and the Patriots on Thanksgiving Day — and Tirico called that matchup alongside Garrett and Tony Dungy.

Garrett, a former Giants offensive coordinator, worked USFL games for NBC before he joined the “Sunday Night Football in America” show as a studio analyst in 2022.

Collinsworth is set to return to the booth when the Packers host the Chiefs on “Sunday Night Football” on Dec. 3.
