Bengals submit ‘hours of footage’ to prove Joe Burrow wasn’t hurt before season-ending injury

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is scheduled to officially undergo season-ending wrist surgery on Monday.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapaport reported early Sunday that the sidelined signal caller is headed to go under the knife and will make a full recovery ahead of the 2024 season.

Leading up to the injury, Burrow was seen wearing a wrist wrap, which led to questions on whether or not he had been hurt prior to suffering the season-ending injury against the Baltimore Ravens on Week 11.

NFL Network also noted that, in an effort to shoot down the notion that Burrow had already been hurt prior, the Bengals “turned in hours of footage to the NFL showing that Burrow was healthy prior to the game.”

The report also said the footage indicated Burrow would be considered healthy prior to his season-ending setback.

“According to those who have seen the footage, Burrow threw the ball normally during practice, without a brace and took all of his normal reps. It also includes documentation from medical personnel stating Burrow’s injury was ‘acute,’ as [Bengals head coach Zac Taylor] has explained. It was not, the doctors say, an injury that happened over time, sources say.”

Burrow had been questioned about being seen with the brace previously, which he maintained presented no correlation to the subsequent injury.

“This is a completely different thing,” Burrow initially insisted upon being questioned about the brace. “It’s not uncommon for guys to wear compression sleeves on the plane because when you go up to that altitude, things can swell up. This is a completely new injury. In football, you have a lot of bumps and bruises. This is a completely new injury.”

Taylor had also been adamant previously that the two occurrences were unrelated.

“I don’t know, totally unrelated to what this was,” Taylor said. “Lot of guys wear different compression things on the plane, but again, that’s something he did. I don’t know exactly what it was, but totally unrelated to what this was.”

The Bengals enter Week 12 with Jake Browning as their starting quarterback going forward and are currently playing against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Burrow, who turns 27 on Dec. 10, ends his fourth NFL campaign with 2,309 passing yards and 15 touchdowns to six interceptions.

Coincidentally, Burrow’s rookie season in 2020 ended with a Week 11 injury, where he tore his ACL.
