Joe Burrow is out for the season, and the Bengals are in trouble.
Cincinnati’s Super Bowl odds plummeted after it was announced their superstar quarterback would be out for the rest of 2023 with a torn ligament in his throwing wrist.
The Bengals odds to take home the Lombardi Trophy dropped from +3000 before the news to +10000 at DraftKings Sportsbook after word of Burrow’s coming absence emerged.
Before the Bengals’ 34-20 loss to the Ravens on “Thursday Night Football,” their Super Bowl odds had been as low as +1200 at ESPN Bet.
Their odds to win the AFC North dropped from +375 before Thursday night’s game to +7500 as of Friday afternoon.
Cincinnati is now a long shot to make the playoffs as well, sitting at +570 at FanDuel Sportsbook to play postseason football, the fifth-worst odds in the AFC.
The Bengals had reeled off four straight wins before Burrow’s season came to an early end.
But they were already in trouble in terms of their playoff hopes before the loss of their signal-caller.
Before losing to Baltimore, Cincinnati sat at 5-4 – last in the AFC North and a full game behind the Steelers and Browns.
They’re now .500 with seven games to play and outside of the playoff picture if the season ended today.
The Bengals will now give the keys to Jake Browning, a 27-year-old undrafted free agent, who threw for 68 yards and a touchdown on 8/14 passing after replacing Burrow.

Before the season, the Bengals were among the inner circle of Super Bowl contenders.
DraftKings had them with the fifth-best odds (+1000) to win it all and -255 to make the playoffs.
Burrow also had begun playing himself into the NFL Most Valuable Player award conversation.
On Thursday morning, Burrow was +1000, the fifth-best odds in the league, to win the award.
