Garwey Dual throws punch as Providence, Kansas State get into nasty scuffle

For an early game this season, it was a spicy one for both Providence and Kansas State.

In the 2023 Baha Mar Hoops Bahamas Championship matchup in which the Wildcats came out victorious 73-70 on Friday night, Providence’s Garwey Dual and Kansas State’s Dai Dai Ames were ejected during overtime after exchanging blows.

In the final seconds of overtime, Dual was defending Ames and bumped into him, sending Ames backwards towards the sideline.

A few seconds later, Ames shoved Dual back, hitting him up high, before Dual retaliated with a punch to Ames’ face.

Providence assistant coach Nate Tomlinson immediately pushed Dual away, while head coach Kim English wrapped his arms around Ames to prevent further conflict.

Both players were ejected following the fracas.

According to college hoops reporter Kevin McNamara, Kim English was direct when addressing Dual after the game.

“‘You shouldn’t fight during a game,'” English said to Dual of the scuffle.

The game marked Providence’s first loss of the season and Kansas State went away with their third win.

Both teams hold a 3-1 record.

Dual finished the game with seven points, shooting 3-for-9 from the field, and five rebounds while Ames concluded with 10 points and four assists.

Kansas State will play Miami next in the Bahamas tournament after the Hurricanes defeated Georgia 79-68 on Friday night.

Providence will take on the Bulldogs on Sunday.
