Travis Kelce starts Chiefs-Eagles smack talk with brother Jason early

It’s a little less than two weeks until the Chiefs take on the Eagles, but tight end Travis Kelce already is getting the smack talk in against his brother Jason.

The Chiefs star, after Kansas City’s win in Germany over Miami on Sunday, was asked about the team’s upcoming schedule as things kick into gear.

That’s where he took a little bit of a shot at Jason, 36, who plays center for the Eagles.

“We’ve got a lot of big-time games in the AFC coming up in November and December, and it starts with the Eagles when we get back [to the U.S.],” Kelce said.

When pressed about taking on his brother, Kelce, 34, added: “You know I can’t let him get one in my backyard.”

Well, this should provide the Kelce brothers with plenty of fodder for the next couple of episodes of their “New Heights” podcast.

The Eagles also have a bye this week.

It will be the first matchup between the two teams — and brothers — since they faced off in last year’s Super Bowl, which turned into a thrilling 38-35 win for the Chiefs.

More than a Super Bowl rematch, it will also pit two of the best teams in the league who lead their respective divisions, with the Chiefs on top of the AFC West at 7-2 and the Eagles leading the NFC East at 8-1.

And on top of all the on-field intrigue, Kelce has become one of the most-talked-about figures in sports since his romance with Taylor Swift has gone public this fall.

The pop sensation has attended four games since the two started seeing each other, and the Chiefs star’s performance has seen a noticeable uptick in games she’s on hand, averaging 108 yards per game.

Though Swift has quickly made a great impression on Kelce’s parents, Donna and Ed, and with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ wife, Brittany, Jason told NBC Sports at the end of October that he is happy for Travis, but the situation has been a lot to deal with.

“It’s certainly been weird, the level that it is now,” Jason said. “On one hand, I’m happy for my brother that he seems to be in a relationship that he’s excited about [and] that he is genuine about. But there’s another end of it where it’s like, ‘Man, this is a lot.’”

Whether or not Swift is in attendance in two weeks, the brothers surely will have plenty to talk about and play for on the field in Kansas City.
