Florida man fatally shoots ex in broad-daylight attack in front of her grandmother

A Florida man was arrested after allegedly pistol-whipping his ex-girlfriend and shooting her in front of her grandmother in broad daylight, police said.

Anthony Quinn Peyton, 25, was booked Monday for the murder of London Price, 26, in a brutal attack that occurred after he moved back in with her at an apartment in Miami-Dade County, WPLG reports.

Police said the woman was pistol-whipped multiple times before being fatally shot on Oct. 23. Footage of the aftermath revealed Peyton fleeing while armed with a gun.

Nedra Allen, Price’s aunt, described the alleged killer as an “animal.” She had pushed for police to track down Peyton, noting that the former pair had “troubles” when they were dating.

Allen described her niece as a kind person who was always looking out for others, suggesting she was trying to help Peyton when she allowed him to move in with her despite their breakup.

“She’ll give you the shirt off her back, and I think that’s kind of what put her in this situation to get her hurt,” the grieving aunt said.

Allen added that Price was a trans woman, with the Transgender Justice Initiative at the Human Rights Campaign putting out a statement over her murder.

“London had so many friends and family members who loved her but are now filled with grief following her tragic killing,” said Tori Cooper, director of community engagement for the organization.

“We must stop the epidemic of violence targeting transgender and non-binary people and the national crisis of gun violence. This crisis is especially treacherous for Black and Brown transgender women.”

Since it began tracking violent deaths of trans people in 2013, the Human Rights Campaign has found that nearly 70 percent of victims are shot to death. The majority of them were killed by their current or former partners, and about 76 percent of them were black trans women.

Peyton was charged with second-degree murder and is being held at the Broward County Main Jail.

A motive for the shooting remains unclear, as Broward and Miami-Dade County police continue to investigate the case.
