Tyrod Taylor taken to hospital with ribs injury as Giants turn to Tommy DeVito

The battle of second-string quarterbacks in the Giants-Jets game ended when undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito took over for his first career snap.

Tyrod Taylor exited the game in the second quarter with a ribs injury after he was slammed to the turf on a strange play where he fumbled trying to uncork a pass, caught the loose ball and was dragged down by C.J. Mosley.

Taylor was writhing in pain as trainers attended to his chest after the play before he popped up and headed straight into the locker room.

The Giants ruled Taylor out for the rest of the game and said he was taken to a hospital for further evaluation.

Taylor spent Sunday night at Hackensack University Medical Center, undergoing further evaluation and observation following the Giants’ 13-10 overtime loss.

DeVito, who played high school football at Don Bosco in North Jersey and later at Syracuse, handed off to Saquon Barkley on a third-and-9.

DeVito’s first career pass to start the next drive was dropped by tight end Daniel Bellinger.

The 25-year-old scored his first career touchdown, a 6-yard rush, to give the Giants a 10-7 lead with 8:59 left in the third quarter.

The rivalry game already was a battle of backups because Daniel Jones (neck) is out for the third straight game for the Giants, while Zach Wilson has been in for Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) since the fourth play of the season.
