James Van Der Beek is making fun of his most famous role.
“Man Dawson’s Creek think we wouldn’t notice..” a viral Instagram post read, next to footage from the show’s tenth episode of Season 6, when characters are walking on what is clearly fabric that’s been made to resemble snow.
“Dawson’s Creek really had no budget for snow,” the post concluded.
On Thursday, Van Der Beek, 46 shared the fan video mocking “Dawson’s Creek” in his Instagram Stories, and added his own commentary.
“We must’ve blown the budget on tissues,” he posted, joking about his character Dawson’s infamous crying. He added a laughing emoji.
“Dawson’s Creek” (currently streaming on Hulu) aired on the now-defunct The WB from 1998 to 2003, following the high school and college dramas of friends in fictional Capeside, Mass., including Dawson, Pacey (Joshua Jackson), Joey (Katie Holmes) and Jen (Michelle Williams).
The seminal teen drama was soapy, but it was also a star-maker for its young cast, as they all went on to other popular and acclaimed projects such as “Batman Begins” (Holmes), “Don’t Trust the B– in Apartment 23” (Van Der Beek), “Fringe,” “The Affair,” and “When They See Us” (Jackson), and a slew of Oscar-nominated movies, including “Manchester By the Sea” and “The Fabelmans” (Williams).
Van Der Beek currently lives in Texas, and has six children with wife Kimberly Brook.
Jackson, 45, who is currently going through a high-profile divorce from model Jodie Turner-Smith, has also previously addressed the show’s sometimes questionable production value.
During an April appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Fallon prompted Jackson to talk about why he was trending on Twitter at the time.
“You were trending because of a very specific scene that you shot on ‘Dawson’s Creek’ many years ago,” Fallon, 49, said. “Someone tweeted about it and was very confused.”
In the scene from the show’s first season, Jackson’s Pacey and Van Der Beek’s Dawson are arguing. Suddenly, Dawson throws a basketball at Pacey, who gets hit in the face and falls over.
“The ball hit the camera after it hit my face, and they loved it so much that they — I think we did two or three more takes, is my recollection,” Jackson revealed.
“Somebody had some issues they were trying to work out with me,” he said, adding that the ball “was never supposed to do that.”
He wasn’t hurt, however.
“This was just a beach ball painted to look like a basketball that got bounced off my face,” he shared. “I mean, it didn’t feel great. Not amazing.”
