Weird But True

My parents thought I’d been stabbed to death — 6 months later I decided to call them

A New Zealand man has stunned listeners of a local radio show after revealing his parents thought he had been stabbed to death — only for him to call them six months later.

The Kiwi, known only as Callum, shared his wild story on ZM Radio earlier this month, with footage of the call going viral after it was posted to TikTok.

Callum told the hosts that he was living 270 miles away from his parents and was not in frequent contact with them at the time.

“My sisters were in a bit of a tiff with my parents and they weren’t really getting along,” he explained, saying one of the sisters subsequently decided to play a sick prank. “She actually called my parents up and told them that I’d died.”

The cruel sibling claimed Callum was the victim of a fatal stabbing that had occurred in the town of Porirua.

The parents were purportedly “gobsmacked” and reduced to tears by the news, immediately phoning other relatives for information.

They said they hadn’t heard anything about the stabbing, and similarly hadn’t been in contact with Callum for some time.

When asked why his parents so easily believed the story, Callum replied, “At that point in time, it wouldn’t have been unpeculiar for me to get stabbed.”

The Kiwi claimed he was “busy with work and life” and didn’t think to phone his parents for months afterward, as he was unaware of the cruel trick his sister had played.

However, after half a year passed, he told the hosts that he wondered why his parents hadn’t made contact with him. He then decided to call them to check in — leaving them absolutely stunned.

“You’re alive?” the mom and dad allegedly asked.

At that moment, Callum knew his sister had betrayed him and attempted to explain the situation. He subsequently traveled the 270 miles to be reunited with his “over the moon” parents.

“Your sister sounds like a top-level, red flag, crazy b—h,” one of the radio hosts stated as Callum concurred.

The story shocked many on TikTok, with one claiming Callum made the situation worse by rarely talking to his parents.

“Who doesn’t call their parents for SIX MONTHS,” they angrily asked.

However, others leaped to his defense, with one writing, “My husband would easily go six months if it wasn’t for me.”

“He was used to them initiating contact,” another defender declared.
