How do I deal with a weird co-worker who keeps staring at me?

My co-worker is weird. When we both sit at the front desk and it’s not busy, she just turns around and stares at me. It’s very unnerving. I don’t want to say anything, because she becomes very combative when criticized. I also don’t know if there is an underlying mental issue. What do I do?

That’s just weird, and would make anyone uncomfortable.

It’s not for you to determine if she has a mental issue or not, so I would politely ask her why she is staring at you.

And if that isn’t a productive conversation and doesn’t change the dynamic, then you have no choice but to tell the boss.

Your other option is to turn around and say “OK — staring contest is so on. Let’s go!”

I told my employer that I want out of my job. His reply to that was that he accepts my resignation. I didn’t quit. How do I handle that?

Well, technically you did. When you tell your employer that you want out, or even threaten to leave if some condition isn’t met, then your employer can accept that and consider it a resignation.

So just don’t say those things! If you are not being fulfilled and want to leave, then keep that to yourself and start looking for another job.

Remember, we are all replaceable — none of us are THAT important.

If you’re unhappy, you explain why to your manager, but never, ever talk about leaving.

Otherwise, someone may well take you up on your offer.

I got drunk at a work lunch and revealed some personal things to a colleague that I now regret. I feel embarrassed. What should I do?

It depends on what you revealed — and I don’t want to know.

However, my advice is to not bring up the subject afterwards.

And the next time you go out with your colleagues, don’t drink alcohol.

Work on erasing the memory of the prior time, and replace it with a new perception of you being totally professional, and over time, people will forget the drunken version of you.
