Bengals’ Joe Burrow reaggravates calf injury in loss to Ravens

Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow aggravated an existing calf injury during a 27-24 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

Burrow limped to the sidelines in the closing minutes of the game and used a massage gun to keep the calf loose.

The potential injury came after a 4-yard pass to wide receiver Tee Higgins that closed the gap in the score.

According to head coach Zac Taylor, had the Bengals gotten possession of the ball, Burrow would have gone back in the game for the remaining minutes.

However, the Ravens secured a pair of first downs to keep them ahead.

Though he has been able to play for the last few weeks, his July 27th injury had previously barred him from playing during preseason and the majority of training camp.

Burrow has had a slow start to the season, throwing only 82 yards in a 24-3 loss to the Cleveland Browns in Week 1.

“When your quarterback misses camp, it’s tough to start fast,” Burrow told reporters after the game.

When asked if the injury would affect the rest of the 2023 season, Burrow responded, “We’ll see.”

“Give it a couple nights, couple sleeps, and we’ll see. We’ll go from there,” Burrow said.

The Bengals will face the Los Angeles Rams in Week 3, but the jury is still out if Burrow will be on the field with them.

The current Bengals backup quarterback is Jake Browning, who has been with the organization since the 2021 season.

Browning, 27, was undrafted out of Washington in 2019 and has thrown one pass in his NFL career.
