It’s a good thing Madison Keys has a booming forehand.
The American tennis star and U.S. Open semifinalist swore live on TV during her post-match interview on Wednesday following her quarterfinal win over Marketa Vondrousova.
When Keys was asked by ESPN commentator Rennae Stubbs if she derived any “tactical advantage” from fiancé Bjorn Fratangelo, a former professional tennis player who now serves as her coach, she said she wasn’t able to make out any of his advice at all.
“To be honest, I couldn’t hear s–t out there,” Keys said with a laugh.
“We can’t bleep you, Maddie!” Stubbs replied.
“Sorry, but yeah, I couldn’t hear anything he was saying, so I was like, ‘Yeah sure, got it.'”
Keys, ranked No. 17 in the world, beat Wimbledon champion Vondrousova in an impressive 6-1, 6-4 victory in front of an adoring home crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The 28-year-old American was a U.S. Open finalist in 2017 but has not advanced to that stage at a grand slam since.
“I just love it here. I love playing here,” Keys added in her on-court interview. “In front of a home crowd, you can never feel like you can’t get out of any situation.”
Keys made the quarterfinals at Wimbledon this year, where she lost to world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka, who is waiting for her in the U.S Open semifinal.
The American said her partnership with Fratangelo as a coach has been nothing but successful so far.
“Everything’s been really good,” Keys said. “He’s keeping a tally of his wins and losses. Jessie Pegula’s coach, David Witt, keeps calling him coach of the year and that he’s coming for his titles. So, so far so good.”
“He’s obviously been very beneficial. We’ve had a really great few weeks,” Keys said after her Wimbledon loss in July, per Tennis Infinity.
