Deion Sanders’ son motivated by TCU assistant’s past slight: ‘Pushed him off to the side’

An elephant never forgets, and it appears neither do Buffaloes.

Deion Sanders’ son, Shedeur, lit up TCU’s defense, throwing for 510 yards and four touchdowns on Saturday as Colorado pulled off a 45-42 upset on the road.

It turns out there was some extra motivation thanks to TCU offensive coordinator Kendal Briles, as Deion explained on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Monday.

“He loves the game, he studies the game, he prepares the game, and he has a chip on his shoulder,” Deion began explaining about Shedeur.

“The reason he was so intense and relaxed and ready — not only did he study, but we went to the camp of a certain school, and a certain coordinator we just played against, he’s the offensive coordinator, he was at that school, and we went to that school’s camp, and he didn’t pay [Shedeur] no attention.

“I don’t even think he barely spoke to him. He just pushed him off to the side.”

Deion said the father and son had a talk about it right after it happened and Shedeur vowed never to come back to the school again.

“That’s why I tell my guys [coaches], you be careful on these visits, because these kids see everything. Be careful how you treat them because you never know when they’re gonna come up and beat you.”

Deion offered a clinical analysis of how this worked out for Briles and TCU.

“He dissected them,” Deion said of his son.

“He wanted to beat that guy so bad that he just went to work.”

Briles, 40, was offensive coordinator at Deion’s alma mater, Florida State, in 2019 and at Arkansas from 2020-22.

In his postgame remarks, Shedeur Sanders let reporters know that he had heard the doubters.

“A lot of you didn’t believe in us,” Shedeur said after defeating TCU, according to the Associated Press.

“It’s crazy because you just got to understand our coach, Coach Prime, my dad, everywhere he went, he was a winner. Every game, every opportunity, he took advantage of.”
