Cowboy saved from vicious jaguar thanks to exploding cell phone
A Brazilian farm worker was left with a mangled leg after a jaguar blew up his phone.
The 40-year-old cowhand was attacked by the big cat last week while he investigated the source of a disturbance among his herding dogs on a ranch in the Paiaguas region, according to a Newsflash report.
The man’s companion attempted to fend off the jaguar with a knife, to no avail, leaving the animal to tear his friend apart.
But the Aug. 29 assault ended abruptly when the animal chomped into the cowboy’s cell phone in one of his pockets, prompting the device — more specifically, its lithium-ion battery — to explode in the cat’s face.
The jaguar is believed to be alive after getting spooked by the explosion and running back into the wild.
First responders arrived to treat the rancher for extensive injuries to his limbs, including a broken arm, transporting him to a clinic in Corumbá for surgery and further monitoring.
A video of the rescue effort shows the man’s heavily bandaged arm and leg as he’s wheeled into an ambulance.
He also suffered a second-degree burn on his leg where the phone exploded.
