Iowa State offensive lineman Jake Remsburg suspended six games in gambling probe

Iowa State football is losing yet another starter to the university’s sports gambling scandal.

Offensive lineman Jake Remsburg was suspended six games by the NCAA, the Des Moines Register reported on Friday.

Remsburg reportedly did not place bets on any Iowa State games but wagered on other college football and college basketball teams.

University officials declined to comment on the suspension, according to the Register, instead issuing a statement.

“Iowa State has received the eligibility rulings from the NCAA’s Student-Athlete Reinstatement (SAR) Committee and shared those with impacted student-athletes,” the statement read. “As we have stated since the outset, we will not comment on any individual’s case, however we will continue to support and stand our student-athletes if they elect to appeal their SAR decision.”

Remsburg is one of seven current or former Cyclone football players embroiled in the sports betting investigation, with Jirehl Brock, Isaiah Lee, Hunter Dekkers, DeShawn Hanika, Dodge Sauser, and former player and current Denver Bronco, Enyi Uwazurike.

Brock, Lee, Sauser and Dekkers were all accused of placing bets on Iowa State football games.

Dekkers, the team’s starting quarterback last season, is the only one of the four who is still on Iowa State’s roster, although he did not participate in the Cyclones’ preseason camp.

Hanika, who placed bets on Iowa State basketball games but not football, also remains on the roster.

Remsburg, perhaps because none of his bets involved university sporting events, is the only one expected to play for Iowa State this season, per ESPN.

Iowa State football’s sports betting mess is part of a statewide probe that has also engulfed the Iowa Hawkeyes.
