Mets’ Denyi Reyes will get spot start after Carlos Carrasco was put on waivers

Carlos Carrasco’s tenure with the Mets became even more tenuous when they placed the slumping pitcher on irrevocable waivers before Tuesday’s loss to the Rangers, according to The Post’s Joel Sherman.

Any team willing to take on the remaining $2.6 million of Carrasco’s expiring contract can claim him.

If the pending free agent goes unclaimed, he would continue to be on the Mets’ roster.

After going 15-7 with a 3.97 ERA in 29 starts for the Mets in 2022, Carrasco has been a disaster this season, with a 3-8 record and a 6.80 ERA in 20 appearances.

That includes getting knocked out after recording just five outs and allowing five earned runs in his most recent start Saturday against the Angels.

Mets manager Buck Showalter had said earlier Tuesday that the Mets were considering using Carrasco to start Wednesday’s series finale on three days’ rest.

But Showalter announced after the Mets’ 2-1 loss to the Rangers that Denyi Reyes would be called up from Triple-A Syracuse to make the spot start, with Kodai Senga pushed back to pitch Friday against the Mariners to be afforded two extra days of rest.

“Reyes will start, and we have some other adjustments we’ll make to bring him on the roster and give Kodai some extra rest,” Showalter said. “We know how many innings after the break and we were pretty adamant about accomplishing some things with [Senga] to get through the season. We’ll be protective of his innings and pitches.”

Kevin Parada, the No. 5 prospect in the system and ranked 94th overall in baseball according to MLB Pipeline, was promoted Tuesday from High-A Brooklyn to Double-A Binghamton.

The No. 11 overall pick in 2022 out of Georgia Tech was hitting .265 with 11 home runs, 42 RBIs and a .768 OPS in 87 games for the Cyclones this season.

The top two ranked prospects in the organization — Luisangel Acuña and Drew Gilbert, who were obtained in the deadline trades for Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander, respectively — already were on the Binghamton roster.

Left-handed pitcher Adam Kolarek and outfielder Abraham Almonte cleared waivers and were outrighted to Triple-A Syracuse, but Kolarek elected free agency rather than accept the designation.
