Carlos Alcaraz belts out song as singer dances along after abbreviated US Open win

First Carlos Alcaraz showed off his skills on the tennis court and then he delighted the crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium with his ability to belt out a tune.

The No. 1 ranked Alcaraz had just defeated Dominik Koepfer 6-2, 3-2 in his first-round U.S. Open match after Koepfer had to retire from the match because of an ankle injury.

Alcaraz was doing his post-match interview on the court when the interviewer brought up two-time Latin Grammy winner Sebastian Yatra, who was in the stands for the match.

Alcaraz said that Yatrai’s hit “VAGABUNDO” was a song that he listened to a lot and that it was “great to have him supporting the tennis and supporting me as well.”

That was when the interviewer asked if Alcaraz could sing a few lines from the song.

The 20-year-old Spaniard, who beat Novak Djokovic this summer in a thrilling five-set final at Wimbledon, was slow at first to get into a rhythm but quickly found himself singing the lyrics in front of the massive crowd, which included Yatra.

The acclaimed singer seemed to enjoy the tennis star’s version of the song as the broadcast caught Yatrai dancing and smiling as Alcaraz sang.

Eventually, Alcaraz got a bit shy and stopped as the crowd burst into cheers.

Alcaraz is attempting to defend his title at the US Open after winning in 2022.

After advancing on Tuesday night, he will face South Africa’s Lloyd Harris on Thursday after Harris won in straight sets over Guido Pella earlier in the day.

The reigning US Open champ has enjoyed playing on one of tennis’ biggest stages in Queens.

“This is a court that I love playing in,” Alcaraz said after the match, according to the tournament’s website. “Since the first step on the court [tonight] I felt great, I felt amazing — the same energy that I felt last year. It was a great start to the match and I think I played and I felt really well during the match.”
