Phillies vs. Angels prediction: Michael Lorenzen will continue dominant stretch

The Philadelphia Phillies are sitting in good position for a wild card spot, while the Los Angeles Angels are once again on the outside looking in despite having the AL MVP on their roster for the fifth time in 10 seasons.

On Tuesday, the Angels look to Tyler Anderson (5-5, 5.35 ERA) with Philadelphia countering with Michael Lorenzen (7-8, 3.69 ERA).

The Angels haven’t been very profitable with Anderson on the hill, going just 2-9 in his last 11 starts. Anderson hasn’t made it out of the fourth inning in his last three outings, allowing 16 runs over that span.

Things probably won’t get any better Tuesday.

Current Phillies hitters are batting a robust .400 against Anderson in 45 career at-bats.

Lorenzen has been good overall this season, but has struggled of late. In his last two starts, Lorenzen has given up 10 runs in just nine innings.

Before that, he had allowed a total of five runs in his seven previous starts (40  2/3 innings).

Lorenzen hasn’t been the same pitcher since tossing a no-hitter against Washington on Aug. 9.

Look for him to get back on track Tuesday, though, against an Angels’ offense that has struggled to score runs on the road.
