No sweat: Vivek Ramaswamy has quirky approach to GOP debate prep
Republican presidential contender Vivek Ramaswamy is taking a physical approach to debate preparation in the hope of acing Wednesday’s showdown.
The 38-year-old biotech entrepreneur posted a video of himself on the tennis court Monday, gracefully returning volleys that appeared to be served up by an off-camera ball machine on a court surrounded by lush greenery.
“Three hours of solid debate prep this morning,” the Ohio-born, Ivy League-educated son of Indian immigrants captioned the video of his shirtless workout posted on X.
On Tuesday, Ramaswamy kept up the exercise theme, this time posting a clip of him and his wife Apoorva cranking out burpees in what appeared to be a home gym.
“More debate prep this morning, with my favorite sparring partner,” tweeted Ramaswamy, who appeared to come off second best in the exercise competition.
Ramaswamy will be the second-highest-polling GOP candidate to take the stage at Milwaukee’s Fiserv Forum, after Donald Trump claimed he would stay on the sidelines because of his massive lead in the primary race.
Trump, who is set to turn himself in to Georgia authorities the day after the debate to face charges in connection with his alleged efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss in the state, enjoyed the support of 53% of primary voters Monday, according to FiveThirtyEight.
GOP candidate and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was polling at second place with 15%, and Ramaswamy was in third place at 9%.
At the bottom of the Republican pile, with less than 5% support, are Trump’s former Vice President Mike Pence, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum.
Ramaswamy, a health care and tech-sector entrepreneur and author known for his criticism of so-called “woke culture,” was relatively unknown until launching his long-shot bid, which has gained more steam than most of the established politicians he is opposing.
