Iowa State defensive tackle Isaiah Lee accused of betting against own team

Four starters on last year’s Iowa State team have been charged in connection with a state gambling probe, including one who allegedly bet against his own team.

Jirehl Brock, Jacob Remsburg, Isaiah Lee and DeShawn Hanika have been charged with tampering with records as the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has probed gambling around both Iowa State University and the University of Iowa, according to the Des Moines Register, which cited court records.

Lee, a defensive tackle, was accused of betting on Texas to defeat Iowa State in 2021.

He made one tackle in the game as Iowa State beat Texas 30-7, causing him to lose his apparent bet.

Lee was reportedly wagering for small stakes, having bet 115 times for a total of about $885.

He appeared in 10 games for Iowa State last season, compiling 22 total tackles.

Brock led the Cyclones with 445 rushing yards on 99 carries last season.

Brock allegedly placed 1,327 bets totaling more than $12,050.

According to the report, he had been held out of practice of late due to undisclosed reasons.

The four players are all accused of using third-parties’ accounts to place their bets.

“Since becoming aware of potential NCAA eligibility issues related to sports wagering by several of our student-athletes back in May, Iowa State University has been actively working to address these issues with the involved student-athletes, and that process remains ongoing,” Nick Joos, senior associate athletics director at Iowa State, said on Thursday.

“We will continue to support our student-athletes as our compliance staff works with the NCAA to sort out questions surrounding their future eligibility for athletics competition.”

Iowa State quarterback Hunter Dekkers, offensive lineman Dodge Sauser and former defensive lineman Enyi Uwazurike were all hit with tampering charges previously in the probe.
