Giancarlo Stanton belts homer for third straight game in Yankees’ loss

For the first time this season and for the 23rd time in his career, Giancarlo Stanton has hit home runs in three straight games.

During the eighth inning of the Yankees’ 7-3 loss to the Astros on Friday night in The Bronx, Stanton created a spark in an otherwise lackluster game with his 435-foot homer to left field off of Rafael Montero.

On Thursday, Stanton hit a two-run home run in the first inning against Houston’s Cristian Javier in a 4-3 Yankees win. He also went deep on Shane McClanahan in a 7-2 win over the Rays on Wednesday.

In his past 21 games, including Friday, Stanton has 10 home runs and 22 RBIs.

Additionally, he has driven in seven of the Yankees’ 14 runs over the past three games.

“Not a lot of guys roll that off,” manager Aaron Boone said of Stanton’s production after the game. “So yeah, I feel like really the last three, four weeks he’s been pretty good. With Giancarlo, I always feel like there’s another level he can get to. We’ve seen but he’s been impactful here, certainly of late. But it’s good to see him.

“Hopefully as we get more guys going and they can start kind of feeding off each other and building on one another, you know he’s obviously a key for that.”

In his past five games, Stanton has a slash line of .235/.278/.588. Strikingly, the former MVP and five-time All-Star was hitting for a mere .201 average and a .723 OPS in his previous 54 games.

Despite his hot streak, Stanton didn’t seem to have it on his mind after the win Thursday night.

“Those [things] don’t really matter,” he said. “The struggles of months ago, weeks ago, right now it’s just about how I can help us win each night.

“I’m having good at-bats, not-so-good at-bats. So, a little back-and-forth but the point is to try to be productive.”

Stanton’s best production came during his 2017 MVP season with the Marlins. He put up career-highs of 59 home runs, 132 RBIs, and a 1.007 OPS over 159 games.

Since his arrival in The Bronx in 2018, Stanton holds a .249 average, .827 OPS, 127 home runs and 340 RBIs.
