Off-duty cop, father shot in NYC domestic incident, both dead

An off-duty NYPD cop was shot in the head by his own father — who then turned the gun on himself in a bloody family feud that ended with both men dead in the Bronx Wednesday, police said.

The officer, 26, was asleep at his dad’s apartment in Soundview when the older man shot him at around 12:45 p.m., an NYPD spokesman said.

The dad then shot himself in the head in another room of the home on Fteley Avenue near East 172nd Street, according to cops and police sources.

A pregnant woman who was inside the apartment with a relative of hers was hospitalized “because she was emotional,” the spokesman said. It wasn’t clear what her connection to the officer or his dad was.

The cop was part of a baseball team made up of officers. A friend of his who worked with him in the same division went to check on him after he failed to show up for a game– and came upon the grisly scene, police said.

The NYPD spokesman said the cop’s father “may have been suffering from mental illness” when he opened fire.

The officer joined the force in 2018 and worked in the NYPD’s Bronx narcotics division, according to sources. Neither his name nor his dad’s were released.
