‘Kiddie ankle monitor’ mocks house arrest to confine kids: ‘Little Yikes’
They’re never too young for delinquency.
One “Little Tike” was allegedly forced to wear an “ankle monitor,” according to a viral TikTok video posted on @legbootlegit with over 21 million views.
In the one-minute clip, the child is seen wearing a red and yellow device called “My First Ankle Monitor,” purportedly manufactured by “Little Yikes.”
“If you’re the parent of a young child and you’re not getting enough sleep at night, I’m betting it’s because your children will not stay in their room,” the dad says in the video. “That was my problem too until recently when I found this ankle monitor.”
The spoof device created by “Kid Toys, Adult Issues,” also known as @shampooty on Instagram and “Legboot” was made to look like a real ankle monitor — but is not, in fact, a bona fide children’s toy.
“You’d be surprised how fun it is to spread harmless misinformation. The world could use a little more crazy, a little more weird, a little more humor… I’m helping fill that void,” the Legboot owner, who did not disclose his name, told the Post.
Nevertheless, its packaging and materials sent TikTok users howling at its hilarious disclaimers and features, all designed to keep your kid confined.
“My First Ankle Monitor” advertises limitations on what rooms children can access by setting time-out and no-go zones, to which the father in the video quips: “It’s sort of like house arrest.”
“This brand is a God-send, taking a page out of the criminal rehabilitation playbook and applying it to children,” the dad sarcastically praises.
In the video, the device mentions it uses the “Tike tracker” app to monitor the child’s whereabouts, encouraging buyers to “use our app to keep your little jit contained and locked down!”
The father jokingly claims, “Whenever my little juvenile delinquent sneaks out of his room,” he receives a notification on his phone, which can result in his son getting zapped.
“My favorite is to employ the built-in electrical impulse training tool,” claiming to zap his son is “therapeutic for me,” he reveals in a mocking tone.
Many people were disturbed by the viral clip — until they realized the kiddie’s ankle monitor was a gag.
“Ankle monitor on babies is insane,” one person tweeted. “This is an insane concept.”
“I thought this was real until ‘little yikes’,” one person admitted in comments below the TikTok video. “The way I thought this was real.”
“I wonder how little tikes and Walmart would react to this ad,” asked another. “Cocofelon fr”
Some parents admitted that they’d jump at the chance to use the tool, if only it were real.
“This should be a real product without the shocker,” pleaded one person. “Super impressive how you made it look so legitimate. with the app and everything.”
“I checked Amazon for this,” revealed a prospective buyer.
“Tell me why I’m waiting to see where it will be available lol take my money,” joked another.
Although “My First Ankle Monitor” is not a real item for purchase, the packaging blended in seamlessly with other Walmart children’s devices like “Little Tikes.”
The ankle monitor box featured various questionable phrases, such as “Make sure that little snot stays in its room!” and “Prepare your mini-me for its future house arrest.”
Legboot, the jokester company that created the ankle monitor device, is known for releasing toys and collectibles with dark humor, such as Thot Heels, Off the Elf, and Baptismal Blasters, which is described as the “Trinity pack of holy water pistols is essential Pandemic Priest gear.”
“I think it helps to introduce some playful human error into the margins. I’m trying to make art statements for and about humanity,” the father revealed.
The brand teased its next hoax product, which will be an extension to the kiddie’s ankle monitor, called “Doing Time HOLDING CELL,” advertised as an “even more robust confinement experience.”
