Weird But True

Murdered woman’s head stolen from her grave in sick ‘witchcraft ritual’

The search is on for this tomb raider.

Police are hunting for a potential practitioner of witchcraft who stole the head of a murdered woman from her grave in Brazil.

Sabrina Tavares de Almeida, 31, was shot dead in August 2022 before her burial site was found desecrated in March of this year.

An administrator at the cemetery, located in Rio de Janeiro State, quickly contacted police who launched an investigation that is now being made public.

“We found that the concrete cover had been broken by blunt action,” criminal expert Fábio Barbosa Teixeira told local media.

“The lid of the wooden coffin inside the tomb was broken and the corpse’s head had been extracted.”

Teixeira believes that the macabre grave robbery was unrelated to Almeida’s murder and that the perpetrator was a purveyor of black magic due to other evidence found at the scene.

“In place of the corpse’s head was an earthenware bowl containing burned materials inside,” he declared.

Cops are continuing to hunt for the tomb raider, but have already named a main suspect in Almeida’s brutal slaying.

Last August, Almeida and her mother, Fátima de Azevedo Tavares, were shot by a hooded intruder while sleeping inside their home.

Almeida died at the scene, but her mom managed to survive the attack.

Soon after, cops named Almeida’s former brother-in-law, Mateus da Silva Osório Ferreira, as the man they believed carried out the crime.

Almeida had been married to the suspect’s brother, a police officer who was killed in 2016. After his death, Almeida became the sole inheritor of his house, much to the rage of Ferreira.

Ferreira launched a legal challenge to try and obtain ownership of his brother’s home, but lost the nasty court battle.

Prosecutors maintain that he never accepted the court’s decision to award the property to Almeida and subsequently started threatening her.

Ferreira was arrested four months after Almeida’s murder and was charged with femicide and attempted femicide.

However, on Jul 20., Judge Adriano Celestino Santos released the suspect from custody citing a lack of evidence.

For Almeida’s father. Jorge Luiz Gomes de Almeida, the desecration of his daughter’s tomb was an additional blow, given that he’s still struggling to cope with her murder.

“You bury someone and they do this? he told local press. “It’s a horrible thing. She was murdered and there’s no peace for her, not even in the cemetery.”
