Subway is giving away free sandwiches for life — with a catch

They’re looking for a hero.

Subway is seeking a sandwich lover to legally change their first name to “Subway” for a lifetime of free food and beverages from America’s largest sandwich chain.

But don’t rush to change your name just yet — you have to submit your (current) name and be chosen to get the golden ticket.

Anyone interested in being referred to as Subway can sign up at SubwayNameChange.com between Aug. 1 at 9 a.m. Eastern and Aug. 4 at 11:59 p.m.

The company has pledged to cover the winner’s $750 legal fees for the name change, “making it easy and effortless to become Subway and enjoy a lifetime of delicious subs.”

Subway the person will have four months to show Subway the company proof of the name change before they can claim the lifetime footlong prize.

Although, according to the fine print, free Subway “for life” equals $50,000 worth of gift cards.

The contest is open to anyone 18 and older, except in Alabama and Nebraska, where you must be 19, and in Mississippi, where you need to be 21.

According to the Social Security Administration, Subway was not in the top 1,000 most popular baby names in the US over the past century.

The contest comes after Subway introduced a new collection of subs earlier this summer in an attempt at reinventing the brand as the struggling company seeks a buyer in a $10 billion sale.
