Why do the 2023 Mets look nothing like the 101-win 2022 Mets? What the heck happened to the team that was a World Series contender last year?
The Mets head to the Bronx for a two-game Subway Series on Tuesday in what could be the final week as a member of the Mets for a couple of their rentals.
Which expiring contracts could be traded? Could Max Scherzer also get moved? Do the Mets consider listening to offers for Pete Alonso?
That’s the big topic of conversation on a new episode of the “Amazin’ But True” podcast with Nelson Figueroa and me.

- BOSTON BEATDOWN: The Red Sox outclassed the Mets, taking two of three games. Carlos Carrasco was pounded on Sunday. Trevor Gott continues to stink. Max Scherzer was giving up home runs left and right. The offense did not do much of anything.
- MASHED MAX: What has happened to Scherzer? Is there any way the Mets can get anything for him if they trade him before the deadline?
- WHERE’S MAURICIO: The Mets continue calling up guys like Danny Mendick over Ronny Mauricio. It has got ridiculous how long this team has waited to give him a chance. They could use the spark of his bat, even if his defense will be rocky. With Luis Guillorme to the IL, it’s a no-brainer.
- BILLY INEPPLER: Eppler has constantly made bad trades that have made the Mets worse. He will 100% be on the hot seat this offseason. He has constantly struck out with the moves he has made and the Mets will have a lot of questions to answer, including a search for a team president coming this offseason.
- ALONSO TRADE: Figgie believes the Mets should put Pete Alonso on the trade block and see what they can get for him. This would be surprising, considering his value is so low at the moment as he hits right around .205.
- KEEP OR SELL: Mark Canha? David Robertson? Tommy Pham? Daniel Vogelbach? Justin Verlander? Scherzer?
