Knicks guard Quentin Grimes will help Team USA prepare for FIBA World Cup

For the first time since entering the NBA, Quentin Grimes didn’t take part in summer league.

But that doesn’t mean his offseason will be without competition.

The young Knicks’ guard has been chosen as part of the USA Select Team that will practice and scrimmage Team USA ahead of the World Cup at the end of August.

His agency, Independent Sports and Entertainment (ISE), announced the selection Friday.

Grimes will face teammates Josh Hart and Jalen Brunson, who will represent the United States.

Grimes is also eligible to be part of the World Cup team as an injury replacement.

The USA Select Team will also include, among others, Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams of the Thunder, Jalen Green of the Rockets and Cade Cunningham of the Pistons.

The 6-foot-4 Grimes is coming off a strong second season with the Knicks during which he averaged 11.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, shot 38.6 percent from 3-point range and was one of their top perimeter defenders.

Former Knicks point guard Kemba Walker has signed a one-year deal to play next season overseas for AS Monaco in the French LNB Pro A and the EuroLeague.

The 33-year-old Bronx native, a four-time All-Star, has bounced around the league in recent years after his decision to sign with the hometown Knicks didn’t work out nearly as planned.

Last July, the Knicks traded Walker to the Pistons to clear salary cap space to sign Brunson.

He never played for Detroit.

Walker was given a shot by the Mavericks, but was waived in January.

The Knicks made the signing of forward Nathan Knight to a two-way deal official Friday.

The 6-foot-8 Knight could be in the mix as an option at the backup forward spot, along with Isaiah Roby.

Over three NBA seasons with the Hawks and Timberwolves, he has appeared in 108 games and has averaged 3.7 points, 2.0 rebounds and 7.8 minutes.
