Toddler hurt by mysterious spiky object left behind on playground, officials say it was intentional

Safety concerns have been raised after a small child was hurt by a spiked object while at a playground.

The toddler was stabbed by the spiked object hidden in the sand at the Sindone Family Park in Varsity Lakes on the Gold Coast.

The local councilor in charge of the park believes that the item was left there deliberately.

“This little bit of litter has been weaponized, and it’s injured at least one child,” Gold Coast, Australia councilor Hermann Vorster told 7NEWS.

Vorster says that the child was not seriously injured but that he has “serious concerns” about the family-friendly park.

“If you’re the type of person who thinks it’s OK to leave this in the sand, get your head read,” he said.

Plastic spikes are not the only thing left behind in Gold Coast parks that have worried the council and parents according to Vorster.

“Beer bottles left behind can be smashed, put into sand and they can close down a playground for days and even a week.”
