Jalen Rose out at ESPN as company continues high-profile layoffs

ESPN has let go of NBA Countdown’s Jalen Rose, The Post has learned.

Rose, 50, had been on ABC/ESPN’s top NBA broadcast for a decade, which was especially impressive because of the amount of changes the network has made over that time.

The Post first reported Friday morning that ESPN was laying off around 20 on-air personalities.

Top NBA analyst Jeff Van Gundy was also let go by the network.

ESPN had reduced Rose’s role at the network after his daily program with David Jacoby was canceled at the end of 2022.

Everything to know about ESPN Layoffs

On Friday, ESPN began the latest round of its layoffs, with several big names among the 20 or so on-air personalities being let go.

Network stalwarts Jeff Van Gundy, Max Kellerman, Keyshawn Johnson, Suzy Kolber, Matt Hasselbeck, Steve Young and Todd McShay were some of the biggest names let go of by ESPN.

It marked the third round of layoffs by the “Worldwide Leader,” with the previous two focusing on behind-the-scenes workers.

The massive layoffs come as part of mandates from parent company Disney, which announced earlier this year that around 7,000 jobs would be eliminated.

Rose survived with his pregame show, but, making millions, he had been a target as ESPN likes some of its emerging analysts, such as Kendrick Perkins, JJ Redick and Richard Jefferson.

When ESPN started “Get Up” in 2018, Rose was one of the original hosts, making a reported $3 million a year.

He exited the show after ESPN decided to make Mike Greenberg the solo pilot of the program.

Rose will continue his column and podcast for The Post called, “Renaissance Man.”
